Specific cable / buyer evidence

What does the PV wire jacket say?

“Solar cable” describes a project, not a validated conductor. The complete PV WIRE legend, conductor metal, size and matched maker’s sheet establish a more useful identity. Outdoor storage and open cable ends must be recorded as condition, not hidden behind a sunlight-resistant product label.

Distinct buyer question

Identify marked solar PV wire separately from generic solar cable and undocumented reel exposure.

Checkable specification fields

These are examples from the named references, not assertions about a reel you have not shown us. Match the actual jacket, tag and part number before using a product claim.

FieldDocumented example / boundarySource
Southwire exampleA cited aluminum Type PV construction has XLPE insulation, 2000 V marking and sizes from 6 AWG to 1000 kcmil.[1]
Sample printThe maker’s sample legend includes PV WIRE, 2000V, 90°C WET OR DRY, SUN RES and sequential footage.[1]
Standards distinctionUL identifies UL 4703 PV wire separately from UL 9703 distributed-generation harnesses.[2]
Limit of observationA SUN RES marking on a documented product does not establish the present life or integrity of a weathered surplus reel.[1]

Read, then match, the physical legend

Photograph several legible points on the outer layer and the reel label. Compare the whole line—including metal, size, date, wet/dry and voltage—to the exact manufacturer sheet. Do not copy this aluminum product’s rating to a copper reel, harness assembly or different manufacturer.

  • Transcribe product designation and any UL reference as printed, not as a certification conclusion.
  • Capture conductor metal/size, original reel ID, sequence marks and both end seals.
  • Keep actual warehouse/outdoor exposure and visible UV or handling effects in a separate condition field.

Decide what the evidence cannot say

A product design claim and a current reel inspection answer different questions. Record duration of storage if known, open ends, broken flanges, kinks or crushed outer wraps. If history is unavailable, say so; neither appearance nor a dated manufacturer sheet proves current electrical suitability.

  • Ask for photos of flange edges, cable ends and tag.
  • Do not promise resale, installation, testing or compliance outcomes.

Source notes and scope

The linked references support the specific examples above. Product designs and standards can change; seller-supplied markings, measured length and current condition require separate verification. Nothing here states that this buyer stocks, tests, guarantees or accepts a particular cable, or offers installation advice.
