Differentiate shielded VFD motor cable from ordinary tray cable in industrial-project surplus.
Checkable specification fields
These are examples from the named references, not assertions about a reel you have not shown us. Match the actual jacket, tag and part number before using a product claim.
| Field | Documented example / boundary | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer example | Southwire SPEC45451: 2000 V three-conductor copper VFD cable with XLPE RHH/RHW-2 insulation and PVC jacket. | [1] |
| Shield and grounds | That product includes three copper grounds and a copper-tape shield with at least 50% overlap. | [1] |
| Intended context | The named product is specified between variable-frequency drives and motors; an application example does not qualify a surplus reel. | [1] |
| Project context | Southwire lists VFD/control cable separately from feeder wire, PV wire and cabinet whips in a data-center cable ecosystem. | [2] |
Show the entire power assembly
A cut-end photograph should make the conductor count, grounds and shield construction inspectable. Record the exact part number, jacket legend, nominal size and voltage as marked. Southwire’s published 2000 V example is not a rating assigned to every cable called VFD.
- Transcribe the manufacturer, Type TC-ER/VFD and any voltage wording from this reel.
- Identify copper/other metal, conductor size/count, separate grounds and shield evidence.
- Record jacket type and whether the ends show damage or modifications.
Use industrial context only as context
A reel left from a motor-control or data-center project still needs evidence of its own identity, footage and storage. A project description cannot substitute for a datasheet or electrical test; do not use a cited hazardous-location or installation statement as a blanket code-compliance claim.
- Attach reel ID, tag, measured or qualified length and source document.
- State that a product-fit inquiry does not guarantee purchase or energized-service suitability.
Source notes and scope
The linked references support the specific examples above. Product designs and standards can change; seller-supplied markings, measured length and current condition require separate verification. Nothing here states that this buyer stocks, tests, guarantees or accepts a particular cable, or offers installation advice.
