Separate TC, extra-run TC-ER and power-limited PLTC surplus constructions.
Checkable specification fields
These are examples from the named references, not assertions about a reel you have not shown us. Match the actual jacket, tag and part number before using a product claim.
| Field | Documented example / boundary | Source |
|---|---|---|
| TC example | Ramcorp describes Type TC under UL 1277 with a 600 V designation; verify the actual product marking. | [3] |
| ER distinction | Ramcorp explains TC-ER as an additional exposed-run designation/test; ordinary TC should not be relabeled TC-ER. | [3] |
| PLTC example | A Prysmian foil-shield PLTC datasheet lists suggested 300 V, 22–12 AWG tinned copper, 2 or 3 conductors, foil shield and drain wire. | [2] |
| Construction variability | Belden shows TC-ER examples with differing insulation/jackets and different wet/dry temperature limits. | [1] |
Compare designation, not tray appearance
Belden’s portfolio examples show more than one TC-ER construction; the Prysmian PLTC specimen is a particular shielded product, not a definition of every PLTC cable. A seller should photograph the print and identify shield, drain wire and ground separately. The term “tray cable” is too broad for an accurate buying inquiry.
- Capture TC, TC-ER or PLTC exactly as printed, plus voltage and type modifiers.
- Record conductor/pair count, AWG, shield/drain, ground and jacket system.
- Link the exact maker’s part-number sheet rather than copying a similar product’s limits.
Make the reel record comparable
Different reels with similar names can have different constructions, lengths or handling histories. Keep one line per variant with a label photo, measured or tagged footage, end-condition photo and storage disclosure; unknown ER or voltage evidence stays unknown.
- Separate tag-reported length from currently measured remaining length.
- Do not offer a blanket installation, compliance or buyer-acceptance claim.
Source notes and scope
The linked references support the specific examples above. Product designs and standards can change; seller-supplied markings, measured length and current condition require separate verification. Nothing here states that this buyer stocks, tests, guarantees or accepts a particular cable, or offers installation advice.
