Distinguish XHHW-2 and USE-2/RHH/RHW-2 feeder designation and exact voltage markings.
Checkable specification fields
These are examples from the named references, not assertions about a reel you have not shown us. Match the actual jacket, tag and part number before using a product claim.
| Field | Documented example / boundary | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Cerrowire USE-2 example | Its sample print separates USE-2 600 V from RHH/RHW-2 1000 V on the same copper product. | [1] |
| Direct-burial wording | Cerrowire describes the cited USE-2 construction for direct burial, conduit or cable tray; that is not a blanket claim for XHHW-2. | [1] |
| XHHW-2 example | Southwire identifies its XHHW-2 copper with XLPE insulation and recognized raceway uses; product-specific CT and cold-bend features vary by size. | [2] |
| Printed qualifiers | Cerrowire warns its USE-2 sample surface print can vary by conductor size. | [1] |
Why an “OR” marking matters
The Cerrowire example prints “USE-2 600V OR RHH/RHW-2 1000V.” A seller should transcribe the complete line rather than advertise a universal 1000-volt feeder. The manufacturer’s USE-2 claim is for its specific construction; do not apply direct-burial status to an unrelated XHHW-2 reel.
- Show exact type and voltage letters on a legible photo, not just the color of the insulation.
- Record the maker, conductor metal, AWG/kcmil, color and any CT or sunlight wording.
- Keep direct-burial or tray claims as product-specific documented fields.
How a buyer can reconcile the reel
A maker sheet defines a family; the reel tag, continuous print and measured length describe a lot. A partially unreadable legend should remain “designation unverified” pending documentation, even when an apparently similar cable appears in a catalog.
- Request a full product-number or specification link and reel-label image.
- State the remaining-footage method and visible storage or jacket condition.
Source notes and scope
The linked references support the specific examples above. Product designs and standards can change; seller-supplied markings, measured length and current condition require separate verification. Nothing here states that this buyer stocks, tests, guarantees or accepts a particular cable, or offers installation advice.
